Movie Night with the Family

backlog: 11.02.11

I was feeling upset about my schedule. I missed a lot of family events this month because of work. Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful I have a job. Being a newbie in this industry, it’s still challenging for me to grasp the fact that I have to devote most of my time to work now. My family must have sensed how I’ve been feeling because I came home to a couple of surprises that definitely made me smile.

The lovely side of having a sister and a best friend combined into one!

Our main agenda for the day was to visit the venue for my sister’s debut. After our ocular visit, we went to Eastwood to have dinner at one of my favorite restaurants in Manila, Momo Cafe.

Tower Power

Everyone’s favorite appetizer <3

Remo couldn’t resist the desserts behind him any longer that he decided to order this baby right away!

My Lola and my Dad loved this!

The raspberry vinagirette was really good!

I decided to order this seafood casserole for all of us. Everyone who likes creamy food and seafood should definitely try this.

The amount of creaminess and the flavor of the seafood are just perfect. The touch of lemon juice gives a fgresh touch to the dish.

Knowing my sister, I know she would love this just as much as I did! Nothing was left on the plate after dinner! <3

We watched Praybeyt Benjamin! Me, my brother, and my Dad was opposed to it but we couldn’t win to my Mom and sister who conspired with my Lola 😐 :))

I started my Sunday with my housemade spinach dip and  green tea dinner roll from Sinfully.

Aaaah <3 <3 <3

My family picked me up from work and we opted to watch a movie.

We had a few hours to kill so we decided to go to Mary Grace.

I wass craving for Akiba’s lemon square so I decided to get this.

My brother Renzo ordered Mary Grace’s Tiramisu.

While my sister who loves Mary Grace’s cheese rolls ordered 6..

..and a brownie a la mode that she forced us to finish 😐

Best Mary Grace branch that I have been! Perfect for an afternoon delight! A book + coffee or hot chocolate + cheese rolls! aaah <3 <3 <3

We watched In Time and boooooy this movie is one of the bests this year!

JT and Amanda are perfect together. The movie was breathtaking! I can’t stop thinking about it even the next day.

One reason why I love watching at Greenbelt is Chimara.

I finished 3 bags of tofu chips after the movie. Ooops!

Since it was the Halloween season, I got this apple-cinnamon flavored finger-shaped cookie.

My brother Renzo and I tried this quaint Milk Tea shop in Imperial.

We bother ordered their Taro Milk tea.I had mine with coffee jelly and pudding. The milk tea itself disappointed us. So we decided to go to Teaology instead to have some real milk tea fix. 🙂

Ultimate Taste Test 7.0

My week officially started when I attended the Ultimate Taste Test 7.0 with my cousin Ate Ruffa, Tita Luz, and my Mom. When my cousin sent me a message on Facebook asking if I want to attend the UTT.  I said yes with so much excitement! We made this a Mother-Daughter bonding by bringing our Moms with us — which turned out to be one of the best dates this year 🙂

We had 3 hours to kill before the event after I got off from work. The 1st hour and 30 minutes: We went to Starbucks to grab a drink and talk about whatnot’s :)) I browsed through a travel magazine and oh boy….it made me more eager to travel soon..soon..and SOON! 😀

It was nice to catch up with my cousin. We used to go to the same grade school and University so we had the convenience to talk or hang-out every day. I remember talking to her until the wee hours of the morning or our sleep overs with Ate Rachelle when we were younger.

The 2nd half of our waiting game, we decided to go to S&R. There’s nothing not to love about s&r.  I wanted to buy some ingredients to try at home, but my cousin reminded me that I can’t cause I will leave it sitting in the car for 3 hours or more 🙁

We had a great time at the event! As expected, it was jampacked with a lot of foodies so it took us a while to try everything.

Our Moms were too focused on finding a table for us, while my cousin and I were just too giddy to taste all of the food that we will be eating! 😀

I was not able to attend the previous UTT because it was my Dad’s birthday. I am really glad I made it this time.

Since I am OC like that, I want everything to be organized. My cousin and I strategized our game plan so we can try every stall!

I couldn’t let the night pass without having my picture taken with Mr. OurAwesomePlanet(dot)Com 🙂

Here’s my Top 5

5. Katsu House / Edible Options

4. CLSU (Tilapia Ice Cream)

3. Sassy Sisig

2.   Chocolety Asrtisan Chocolates

1. Merry Moo <3 <3 <3

11.20.11 – Sunday Family Day

What I love about Sunday morning shifts is I don’t get too tired from work and my family gets to pick me up so we can spend the rest of the day together.

Yesterday, we decided to have a really early dinner at Italianni’s. I asked my siblings to choose between Bulgogi Brothers and Italiannis, but having a boring/unadventurous sister..Italianni’s won! It was a win-win situation for me though, cause Italianni’s is a great restaurant when it comes to service and food, although I would’ve loved to try Bulgogi Brothers for the first time 🙂

I love the “homey” family style feel when you walk in the restaurant. I’ve been to 5 branches already, and I must say this one’s the best 🙂

Every meal starts with freshly baked bread. Definitely one of the reasons why I keep on going back to Italianni’s.

Sicillian Salad

We all loved this!!! It’s very refreshing ang light.

Grape Shake

This lacks sweetness! The grape shake at their The Fort branch is better 🙁

Bubblegum Malt Shake

Pizza Enorme

We all loved this! My parents and I especially loved the arugula on top! nomnomnom 🙂 <3

Mussels Lombardi + Ribs + Steak + Roasted Veggies 🙂

We decided to order this platter! The steak looks small from this angle but it was pretty big.

Spaghetti and Meatballs

Lymonada, Calamansi and Dalandan Trio

I really wanted to try this! But my brother seemed to love this so much that he finished his tall glass in just 2 gulps!!! 🙁

Fried Calamari

Deep fried to perfection.

We heard mass after our early dinner which ended at exactly 5:47PM!

“Ang kapatid na mabait,may gantimpala”

I would often hear the word “gantimpala” from my Dad. He would always mention that word to his employees as part of his humorous morning conversations with them

I bought my sister the stuff last night and jokingly said the line above! :))

gantimpala – reward

After a week of hard work, I treated myself to+ a new book! 🙂 Yay!

I love Invitation House!!

I love stores that sell cute stuff!!! Definitely my weakness.

My low-back top from Forever 21, bandage skirt from Zara, and bag from GirlShoppe 🙂

Keeping the positive vibes..and thoughts until the end of the year! 😀

Inday’s day-off: Decisions and emotions

backlog: 10.26.2011 – 10.27.2011

One thing that I love about our home is its location. We are near most shopping malls and restaurants that we like going to. As a kid, I used to think that Makati is very far. My parents would always take my siblings and me to Gloriettaea or Greenbelt every Saturday. I used to dread the word “Makati” every time I hear it due to the very bad traffic resulting in long car rides. It was until my Dad drove me to work that I’ve realized that Makati is not really far from us, cause it only took him 25 minutes to get me there.

When I was still in culinary school, I would always curse the bad traffic cause I know it would only take me less time to get to school without all the road congestion. Working in Makati made me miss my life as a student and how “easier” things were. Much more when I saw the newly constructed Regis Building along Katipunan.Seeing the restaurants and Fullybooked would always leave me saying “sayang”.

I asked my family to have dinner in Katipunan on my day-off.I wanted to try the restaurants that I haven’t been to but my family still opted to go to Bon Chon even if they like Chicken Charlie better. Just because they were really hungry and too timid to check the new restaurants.

Speaking of, they also have Chicken Charlie in Katipunan..and Manang’s Chicken as well! Talk about chicken overload in one location! SARAP!

I decided to try Saint Alps Tea House, being the milk tea lover that I am, I just couldn’t let this pass.

Most of the restaurants there has this policy of not bringing outside food to their establishment so my brother Renzo and I had to get our milk tea fix first before heading to Bon Chon.

This place is very cozy!! Perfect for chill date nights or quick night out with friends.

I love matcha tea 🙂 I became a certified matcha lover because of Akiba Cafe <3 🙂

Though Akiba’s better, I still loved this! It’s the same price as Bubble Tea’s but Saint Alp’s  is way bigger! Definitely worth it! 😀

My brother Renzo ordered their Taro Milk Tea. It was one of the best taro milk teas I I have tried!

Matcha Toast

I’m a fan of toasts! Thanks to Singapore and Toast Box! :d

I was exoecting a powdered flavoring for the toast. This was way better than what I was thinking of! The spread was thick so it’s worth every penny.

Thinking of pairing this with a strongly flavored drink the next time.. hmm

Bon Chon chicken.

Jap Chae.

I stand by my Dad when he told us that Bon Chon’s food is either too sweet or too spicy. Their jap chae was okay, just a little too sweet for me!

My brother Remo ordered a burger fromBrother’s Burger! It looked so good!!

We decided to go to Red Mango for dessert. I remember being addicted to their froyo when I started in Culinary School! I would always ask my Dad to drive me to Trinoma after class just to grab a cup of Froyo + Almonds + Grahams and peaches! 😀 <3

“Treat yourself well”. – always!

Shinrou and I had an early appointment to process our NBI clearance. We were so lucky because we finished in less than 2 hours! If you live in the Philippines, you would know that doing things like this could take allll day.

CLEARED! 1 paper down 😀

My sister wanted to have lunch in Banapple so my Mom and I followed my Dad and my sister in Il Terazzo.

I got excited when I saw Tea.Ology. I opted to buy my drink there instead of having the usual Iced Choco in Banapple 🙂

Matcha!! 😀

I loved this so much!!! I swear I’ve been craving for this ever since! 🙂

My perfect matcha milk tea with extra pudding!

Banapple’s Caesar Salad

My sister orders the BBQ ribs whenever we go to bannaple.

Penne in pesto sauce

..and of course! Daddy’s Asian salad! 😀

My Dad wanted us to have a soup so he ordered this for my sister and I..which ended up to me just tasting it and my Dad finishing the bowl of soup! :))

Pecan Pie

I’ve been wanting to make pecan pie for so long but time just wouldn’t permit me  🙁

I find their pecan pie’s filling too sweet I felt guilty with every bite/

Fely J’s

I was so upset when my Dad drove me to work on November 1st. I wanted to spend the “holiday” with them since all of my siblings are on break from school. I just kept silent with my earphones on while he was too preoccupied taking business phone calls. I always have this “sentimental moment” during car rides, aside from the weird verity that I also daydream about some silly scenarios in my head, I can’t refrain myself from contemplating about life over and over and over again! Listening to some feel-good songs definitely helped me take my mind away from the things that have been bothering me. Until….. I looked through my Dad’s eyes.

I do not know what hit me, but that sudden moment took me to my future. It took me to think of what I want to do with my life for the next 5 years. It boiled down to me wanting to do everything with my family around, me aspiring to attain my goals for my family, and me being the best Ia that they could ever have. I might sound like a 5 yo little girl telling you how happy she is and how she loves her parents while showing you her drawing, but that’s what I feel every time we are together as a family.

2 nights ago, just like any other nights, I prayed for our family but this was somewhat different cause I talked to Him about my Dad more. What happened the day after was really moving that my morning prayer was full of gratifying messages again. God really amazes me with all his works. In less than 8 hours, he was able to turn around things for my Dad and for the family. I am really astonished by how he works with my life.

As if the answered prayer wasn’t enough, God blessed me with another day well spent with the family. Definitely one of the most heartwarming bondings that my siblings and I shared.  It was nice to see my siblings have fun in the kitchen and act responsibly by taking charge of setting up our table and get all giddy while preparing our dinner. Some snippets during our “pizza day”

My brothers Remo and Renzo 🙂

I bought ready-to-use pizza dough since I did not have enough time to make it.

My brother Remo is becoming a food enthusiast. So cute to see him in the kitchen! 🙂

One of the pizzas that we made 🙂

Bechamel sauce + Parmesan + Mozzarella + Shrimp + Pineapple

I also decided to make White Chocolate Cheesecake

My cheesecake layer is quite thin since I used 1/3 of the recipe for my cheesecake cups.

I met up with my family after work. I’ve been working every Sunday lately and I am really unhappy about it, especially when I am scheduled to work at night. I am glad that my schedule for that day favored my family and me to have our family day.

We went to Fely J’s for dinner.

Coconut heart + fruit cocktail + fruit juices = HEAVEN

I swear one of the best fruit juices that I’ve tried. I was quite hesitant of this so I opted for sago’t gulaman. Glad my brother gave this a try. Will order this when we go back 🙂

Seafood Kare-Kare

The karekare sauce was very flavorful. I swear I could finish a whole serving! I love kare-kare very much, and this did not fail! Aaaah, craving for this NOW.

Crispy Pata

My family loved this so much! Definitely worth every penny 🙂

Sauteed Paco (fern leaves) and Mushrooms

I love vegetables! Having a Grandfather and a Dad who eats vegetables in every meal and infiltrated my siblings and me made me love it too!

My parents and I loved this so much that we ordered this twice! Yum!!

Pork Binagoongan

My brother Renzo ordered this. My Dad was right when he told us that all of the dishes that we ordered were very delicious that we forgot about the pork binagoongan.

Crunchy Paco

Loved this too!! Each ingredient complimented each other! Nom nom nom 🙂

It’s not a Filipino feast without noodles!!

Leche Flan

My brother Remo loves leche flan so he ordered this

. The best leche flan that we’ve ever had was our Lolo’s. <3 I swear! The consistency and the amount of sweetness of his leche flan will make you want more!

This was the only disappointing dish that we ordered. The consistency was not smooth at all.

Maja Blanca

We all loved the sauce!! Fely J’s Maja Blanca is different but really good!

Sikreto ni Mara Clara

My Mom agreed to dine in at Fely J’s when she saw the poster of this dessert.

We all loved this, especially my Dad! He couldn’t stop raving about this! Actually, he couldn’t stop raving about Fely J’s after stepping out of the restaurant! 🙂

Canonigo with Mango Balls

My brother Renzo ordered this. It was described by our server as our typical Brazo de Mercedes. I chose Maja Blanca over this but my brother was so curious that he still pushed through. And yes, it is like our typical Brazo de Mercedes only that it doesn’t have a “custard” feeling. Only egg whites. It will make you feel like you are eating a souffle because of the texture.

Our Fely J experience was exceptional. Just like my Dad, I couldn’t wait to go back! Found a new love on a Sunday night <3 🙂

We always visit Sinfully everytime we are in Greenbelt.

As usual, we wouldn’t go ou without a bag of bread and a box of chocolates! I always try a chocolate or two every week and it never fails me every time 🙂

To cap the day, my sister convinced me to watch 3 idiots. She loved this movie so much that she wanted to watch it again with me. It’s a long movie but very entertaining and inspiring in a humorous way. 🙂

I am so glad to see everyone happy .Especially my Dad. Looking through his eyes, I know his heart is full <3

Counting The Days: Powerplant Mall Restaurants

10 days ago, I was blessed with something that I’ve been praying for. It was something that definitely helped me figure out what I should do next in my life. Knowing that there is something bigger waiting for me in a couple of months is what keeps me inspired right now.

backlog: 10.22.2011

Have you ever hesitated to answer a call? But something in your heart said you should take it? I was in deep in my sleep when I heard my phone go off. I was so exhausted from work that the last thing I wanted to do is to grab my phone and see who it is. For some reason, I answered the call and I am glad I did. It’s an early birthday present for me! That call changed my future.

My Dad picked up Shinrou and me in the hotel. I really don’t know how to break the news to him. How is it possible that I could break his heart and make him proud at the same time?

I waited for him to ask how my day went. I told him that we got accepted and informed him about the timeline. I could tell that he is proud of me, but his eyes say otherwise… I know he is going to be sad… just like me.

I love shabu-shabu. I’m glad that my Mom loves it too cause every time I feel like having one, no heavy convincing is needed cause I know my Mom will be on my side :))\

My brother Remo and I shared this seafood shabu-shabu platter.

The youngsters, Chella and Renzo is not a fan at all! So they opted to order some boring stuff! Tempura, Chicken Teriyaki, and Gyudon. #lame lol

We all LOVE Banana Leaf! Lucky for us BL is just beside Thousand Cranes so we were able to order their roti. YUM!

We were supposed to watch The Three Musketeers! But unfortunately the next airtime would be 11PM 🙁 Too late since I have an early schedule the next day! I wanted to rush to Glorietta from Greenbelt instead just to catch the 9PM movie schedule but my Mom dislikes long walks so NVM :))

Our night is not complete without going to a Cafe! For some reason, this has become a tradition for our family. I guess it’s because the traffic in Manila is so bad so we always end up sitting in the car for way too long. My parents made sure that we are not going to complain about being thirsty! lol

We indulged in Sinfully’s desserts I swear it is my little haven!

It still feels surreal that in just a few months I’ll be achieving another big goal. Knowing the date gives me excitement and sadness both at the same time. I couldn’t wait to experience the new life that awaits for me next year, but I am not ready to leave things behind either, most especilly my life with my family. Counting the days until I get there. 🙂

Today is the first day of the 11th month of my almost 21 years of existence here on earth.

I’ll be counting the days until I get this plight over with. I’ll move forward and start a new chapter, again. Spend the most out of everything while there’s some blessed time.

I’ll be counting the days until I turn 21! I am very excited for my birthday month. I have already planned out all of the exciting stuff that I will be doing to make it joyous and awesome!

Counting the days, counting each day. To learn and to live. To laugh and love. All for life and for Him 🙂
