Fast Car

June 2013: “Is it fast enough so we can fly away?”

If I can blog like how time flies, this account would be updated like it’s Twitter. But thinking about it, I can’t even update my Twitter account regularly, often times I forget that I have one! #SMH Haha. Anywaaaaay, I know I always blab about time, and how each month seems like it’s only a day in my book. Being excited about a lot of things really helps, especially now that time has been the number one reason of my sadness. So life has been nothing but wonderful lately, despite of the rain and annoying internet service that we get here at home. I am officially a busy girl now. With how fast this process is going, I know that anytime soon I will be too caught up with my “future” next year. But with all the craziness that I have to deal with, I always see to it that I have enough time for my full time job, as a daughter and a sister. I am lucky cause my job (like the real thing haha) is not too demanding.

So here;s another rundown of my lovely June 2013.

Sundays are usually spent with family. And if I’m lucky, I get to spend it with this cutie! 🙂

IPL day is Sissy day!!!! 🙂

I am very particular when it comes to my armpit, and I swear…once you go IPL youcan never go back! haha:P

Dinner in Momo, one of her favorite restaurants. My Sister is a certified picky eater, and it is such a pain in the butt-erfly. Going out with her means “limited restaurant choices” so yeaaaaap. Thank God for Momo!

I had a bowl of sqush soup, that tasted like bolognese sauce. And Caesar Salad that needed more of everything, considering the price. I just can’t understand how stingy some restaurants can be when it comes to salad. I mean like, seriously, there is no cooking involved and you are going to price it like an entree? C’mon Manila! :))))

Anyway, my sister enjoyed her beef tapa, but I bet she wished she was having her usual meal — Southern Style Fried Chicken. what really made me smile was the free choc-nut. It really made me feel that I was home. 🙂

Going to Eastwood on a weekend is a treat! I love looking at the nice booths lined up inside the mall!

Ube and Pistachio Macarons!!!!!

I dieeeeed. I love Macarons and if I can have this everyday I WOULD!!!!

Stopped by the new cupcake shop and bought some yummy oreo cheescake cookies!!! SO GOOOOOD!!!!!

So obviously my passion revolves around food…. eating them, and making them 🙂

Dinner in Mary Grace with my girlfriends.

Yes kids, I like having  salad for dinner. Not only because I like to watch what I eat, but because I love anything healthy!! There’s something about salad that makes me really really satisfied when I eat. I love Mary Grace’s mushroom “pate” , but unfortunately the first one that they served us had hair in it 🙁 What make it more gross is that, I was already halfway done with it when we saw it!! Eek

Malunggay Pandesal

This is sooooo good! Especially when freshly baked, and lucky for us,fellow Filipinos, they really serve this fresh from the oven!!! mmmm

One of my favorite Filipino snacks, Piaya!!!! I find myself buying one every time I pick up my brothers from their Uni. I love anything with Ube!!!!!!

Italian food for lunch at work 🙂

….cause I miss my half Greek half Italian <3

counting the “days”,

Hey, June..

June 2013:Awesome Randomness

It’s been raining like crazy in Manila lately, resulting to a very annoying and unstable internet connection. I find myself wanting to scream outside the window, just so the world could understand how important it is for me to be connected to the internet,24/7. And if you get my drift, it’s basically me telling the entire universe that “I am in a LDR”. The 2 typhoons that hit our country, both in the same week, makes all possible connotation for this plight an understatement.

Classes are suspended the whole week so I spent each waking day with my family. doing everything under the sun angry sky. 6 days has passed since my siblings last went to school, and I have seen them sleep and eat like piggos. *oink*. The irony of it is, they stuff their mouths with food every half hour and I am here, watching everything that I eat and working out for almost 2 hours everyday. If I do not have an upcoming beach trip, I would probably be the old me, having something to snack on beside me. My eating habit has changed a lot, and I can’t really complain about it. I still get to enjoy everything that I love…and the only key is — moderation. Though I really want to blab more about the joys of living healthy, I feel like there’s a better time for me to share it.

Anyway, so here’s a quick rundown of my June 2013..

So this didn’t exactly occur in June, but it was a few days before it so maybe I can get a free pass for already failing my own blog. Haha

My sister was chosen to participate in a Philippine festival called Santacruzan. Times like this made me more grateful of what I have, particularly in this situation – my girlfriends. It’s such a blessing to have talented friends that I can count on even if it doesn’t entirely involve me.

Thanks to my girlfriend Jho for doing my sister’s hair and make-up 🙂

and kudos to my Dad who worked really hard to beautify my Sister’s arc. 🙂

…and of course my mom, for being patient. Haha 😛

Played with my camera and this is one of the shots that I really like 🙂

The pigs

Hello Kitty sweater that I love to wear every time it rains!! Sooooo comfy <3

Rub Beef  ; Fish and Chips ; Nachos

Finally tried Rub: ribs & bbq! The rub beef is super good, I can honestly just go back for that! 🙂 Yumms

Family Brunch: Ribs, coleslaw, fresh potato fries and roasted garlic mash.

We can barely finish this platter. It was sooo good and filling! Mmm

Random for random

DSCN8149“Cuppycake date” with my girlfriend Jho 🙂

I must say, Vanilla Cupcakery has heavenly cupcakes, but it makes me want to jog after. I swear, if Ican eat cupcakes everyday without getting fat, I would. #vain

Family time in Robinson’s Magnolia. Pre-Father’s day celebration

Having a sibling that is not as adventurous when it comes to food can be a pain in the A at times. Since my parents wanted Thai food for dinner, we’ve decided to give them their own piece of “date” night.

Grilled Shrimp Caesar Salad

As expected, there were only 10 shrimps on our “to share” sized salad. I wish we could’ve gotten more, since the amount of this salad is already as good as an entree.

Family Feast, grande: Ribs, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Shrimp, fish and Chips and Veggies

Again, as expected….we didn’t finish this platter. Especially that my sister didn’t like anything from the platter but the fried fish…and her lasagna (no photo).

Second photo: weird annoying face that I usually give my #SelfieAddict sister

Ube Sylvanas for dessert!!! I definitely missed this! Yumm

Thursdate with my Bmore girls!! 🙂 Had dinner a drink and som wings in Hooters….obviously.

Boardwalk Mmm-pire!

03.28.13: Road trip with friends (3 days that I would love to go back to!)

There are things in life that I thought I would never get to experience until I’m on my mid 30’s. With the exaggeration making it sound horrible, I just had a different mentality about “the future” before. Almost 6 years ago, I thought earning 15k a month would make me happy and “wealthy”. Oh the horror of being young…and naive.  Anyway, I AM SO GLAD that someone woke me up from the horrible nightmare and made me realize that I am headed towards something bigger and better. Thank God!!

As I look at my life now, I am still on cloud 9 pinching myself trying to comprehend the fact that THIS IS really happening. “This”, this moment! I didn’t know that a small-digital-squared-shape-device could make me look at my future. Knowing that there is something permanent about my life now builds another layer of shield against anything lamentable. Just when I thought I couldn’t get any tougher in life, God hands me another blessing.

So this post is like a gazillion months late. And trust me, I’ve tried to keep my pace. But bTV has taken over my life on a different level. I spend my free time watching shows that makes me mad, laugh and excited all at the same time! And spend my busy hours daydreaming about the next episode of whichever show (haha) #exaggeration. So I am still trying to understand how I was able to watch 4 seasons of Real Housewives of New Jersey in a week. Yes a full week! And yes, I still have a life. I find myself staying up late just to catch up on my shows. And now, I’m watching Sex and the City again for the nth time. LIFE COULDN’T BE BETTER! Haha

“Drive sober or get pulled over”

If we have signs like this in the Philippines, maybe drivers would’ve cared more. #MAYBE

Fact101: I love packing! I love to pack. I love the feeling that I get when I pack for the both of us. I LOVE PACKING (period). Unlike most people, I don’t complain about it. The thought of going somewhere makes me excited about packing, it’s like an addiction, sometimes I go on trips just for the sake of packing.. haha

I remember going to subway with my Dad 2-3 Saturdays in a month. After we drop off my siblings in Glorietta’s “Kids at Work” we would go straight to Subway and order a sub each with a bag of lays. This occurred when I was big enough to tell him that I am already the tallest and “fattest” kid in the playground. I remember enjoying my sub and how my Dad would look at me like I’m a fat boy.

When I got to the States, a lot older from my  subway days. I tried to drift away from the sandwiches, I just felt like I was already pass that stage – me eating like a fat kid. And besides, my agenda was to try something new! I felt like subway has been in the Philippines long enough that if ever I crave for some “ummm-some” sandwich, it’ll be just there.

Italian Cold Cut Submarine!!!

On a cold normal weekday, it is surprising that we were welcomed with a line outside the door. The “sub shop” is not too glamorous looking, but even people who are wearing a coat and tie are seated by the bar enjoying a sub. We were lucky that there are 4 of us so we got a booth. Otherwise, I would be seated by the bar with the chorvs feeling uncomfortable #ArtreGirlProblems

Since we already had breakfast prior to our late lunch trip to White House, we compromised on getting a full 24 inch…yes 2 feet!!! Italian Sub!!! It was divided into 4 and I swear, I would’ve eaten more, but since we are in Atlantic City, I know that I would be spending the entire day nibbling on something.

P.S. This is really really really good! And I am lucky that I have the best chorvs ever that brings me to places like this!!!

I don’t know who were we fooling but a full sub was not enough for the 4 of us…

We just had to give in and order another full sub!! this time, a very delicious Cheese steak!!!

Mmm so good I can’t even!!!! And yes our subs were served with hots!! that made them even more delicious!!!

A few moments after nutella crepe, hazelnut drink, a pair of shoes and a bag, we found ourselves walking towards the Boardwalk. I haven’t seen it on a daylight like this, and I must say, I appreciated it more this time.

So while waiting for our friend who is trying to win some money at the Casino, we took advantage of the nice sunny day and “bonded” with the camera.

Happiness in Atlantic City… <3

My first Sonic experience. It’s crazy cause we have in Baltimore, but it’s always on the other side of the road when we go to that area.

This reminded me of Roller Rush, a game that I was so hooked on almost 10 years ago!

So after a quick shopping trip somewhere on NJ, we all decided to cook dinner (or at least the amigos did haha). What better way to spend a road trip with friends 🙂

Grilled Fresh Clams and Garlic & Herbs in Oil

The clams alone were already perfect, but putting some of this very light and fresh condiment makes it even more tasteful! Mmm

Grilled Chicken x Carbonara x Grilled Portobellos and Asparagus

I can truly say that we had an amazing dinner. Having the amigos cook for us is a bonus! Haha 🙂

The next day…. (back to reality) 😐

Since I want to minimize the leftovers that we will be bringing back home, I’ve decided to make use of the ingredients that we have left.

I made a batch of crustless grilled asaparagus and portobello parmesan quiche.

I used a muffin pan and lined each hole with a parchment paper to have that “fancy” or should I say…”cutesy” feel! Needless to say, I was very happy with how this turned out, and of course, the amount of stuff that we brought home!

Pretty make up brushes that I snagged in Forever21! <3

P.S. This blog was meant to be posted Tuesday last week, but I was too busy that I shamelessly forgot about it 🙁

40 days,

R <3 xx

Sunshine in my mouth

06.15.13: two roads, one destination

If you are to choose between knowing why & when you will get hurt, and just it unexpectedly happening, which would you prefer? Isn’t it crazy that no matter how hard we try and no matter what we do, pain is still inevitable. I have been thinking about the road that I am taking now, and how it will affect my life, especially my family. It is still a puzzle to me, a dream, that I was able to make it this far. From being this average and laid back student to a person who works hard to achiever her goals. It’s amazing how my life took a 360 degree turn in just a matter of 3 years.

But, I will never win. No matter which path I take, I will still have to face the inevitable. And it saddens me that as early as March 2013, I have been crying my heart out already.Just thinking about the sacrifices that I will be taking with every move,no matter when or how. 2013 has proven me that, loneliness is my companion in life.

Anyway, my weekend will not be complete without a trip to a nice restaurant with y family. Simple or upscale, it doesn’t matter, just as long as food is great and we are all together! 🙂

For that weekend, we went to Sunshine Kitchen in The Fort.

I’ve seen some photos of the place on the internet before, and I told myself that I have to go there when I get back. I get easily amused with restaurants that add a touch of creativity to their food, so Sunshine Kitchen never left my bookmarks bar. Unfortunately (just like the usual) I wasn’t able to take photos of the beautiful place for me to share. It’s such a shame cause they have a beautiful open kitchen and a simple but nicely decorated interior. The fact that it is not your typical box type restaurant puts that rustic feel not only to the food, but also to the whole ambiance of the restaurant.

first appetizer: Mixed Mushrooms with Poached Egg

A new found love for all of us. Everyone loved this and I feel like my Dad and I can just go back for some mushroom and bread fix. The only downer on this dish is the fake “poached” eggs. I get easily attracted with dishes that has “poached” eggs ( I blame the boyfie for this haha), and when they say “poached” I GD expect it to be POACHED! Unfortunately for this, the eggs were baked…I know the difference between poached and baked…and this definitely didn’t looked like it. 🙁 Despite of that, the mushrooms were amazing that we ordered this thrice! YUMSS

Second Appetizer: Callos

My Dad’s favorite! He is very particular with how he wants his callos, and when he likes it, it means it is GOOD!!! He had to order more bread for this cause he was eating it like it’s some dip or something haha

IMG_6870 IMG_6873

4 cheese pizza and Porchetta

Both were equally good!! I was planning to eat half a slice for each only, but I ended up eating 2 slices of 4 cheese and a whole slice of porchetta! Adding arugula to the 4 cheese makes it even more better! Mmmmm

American Southern Style Fried Chicken with Gravy

fried to perfection! My siblings and I loved this!!! The gravy was too perfect I can stop putting ketchup on my chicken if only I have this at home….

Beer Braised Shortribs

This brought me back to Ram’s Head Inn in New Jersey.. the day that I was treated like a Queen! I swear I didn’t expect it to be that good! The sauce was so good I can just sip it with a big spoon!!!! The beef was so tender it melted in my mouth. mmmm

OOTD: Teal is the new PINK!

Since I got back, I’ve been complaining to my sister how my closet looks too “girly”! It screams “teeny-bopper” and I am not entirely happy about it. I want to add a touch of maturity on my outfits now but I feel like I am failing on it haha. anyway, this is me trying to kiss dressing up like a teen….goodbye!

My Dad is not a fan of black. He hates it when we look like we are about to go to a funeral. So to drift away from that notion, since I will be with him. I’ve decided to match my outfit with a beautiful color.

Ring: Love Culture

Necklace: a gift from my brother

Bracelet: Charlotte Russe

I have the ugliest feet ever. I used to wear sneakers all the time, cause I felt so conscious about it. But as I grew older, I’ve decided to embrace it with nice heels!!! My addiction to shoes became therapeutic for me.. haha #ExcusesOfAShoeAddict

Wedges: Charlotte Russe

See you next month,
