05.27.14: Virginia and us
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Happy (almost) weekend! Halloween is literally right around the corner and guess what??? No dressing up for me this year :(( It’s a shame that I can’t have weekends off unless it’s for something really important. No need to fret though cause I have good weekends ahead of me (hint: birthday month).
A few days ago, I was blessed with another challenging situation. It’s not as complicated as the other things that I am dealing with now. I wasn’t planning to react to it but I thought this could also be a perfect opportunity to inspire someone who is going through the same thing. I hope I can make this short so I can move on to my happy post. Haha
“I don’t understand why someone would do this to you. You are always busy here in the apartment, sitting on the couch while watching your shows if not blogging or talking to your family, most days you are at work. Why would someone do this? When you’ve done nothing”. Those were A’s words when I showed him what’s happening, It is very peculiar to have someone cyber bully me when I’ve done nothing but to live my life here. It’s crazy how I am a gazillion miles away from my home country and yet someone finds a way to try and hurt me (but news flash: it’s not working!). We all have our fair share of struggles, and I like mine to be dealt discretely as possible. I think everyone who has seen me before would agree that I look VERY different now,I matured and love life more. No make up, clothes, and shoes can ever make me look the way I am now than the love I have inside of me. Love for my family, partner in life, passion, life -life- life, and my faith. I sometimes think that the people who chooses to hurt others are those who needs love and affection. I pity them because they find happiness in trying to hurt someone and think that it’s okay to find happiness in someone else’s misery. These are just some of the things that I think about my #hater/s. As crazy as it sounds, someone actually took the time to make fun and torment me. All I can think about now is how
I wish that person know s how hard it is for me to wake up each day and know that I won’t be eating breakfast with my Dad..or lunch..or dinner. That most of the time I choose not to eat anything because there is no one to eat with. I wish I can tell that person how I spent years and years of being called names and made fun of for being fat. I wonder if that person knows how it feels like to be bullied…because I do.
Soooo moving on….I still think it’s crazy (…and cute) that I am marrying a man who is so fascinated about Asian food. Whenever I tell him about an Asian restaurant he does not think twice about going to that place. Even if it will take us an hour or so…just like our trip to Fairfax. (more…)
Hello, sweets! 🙂 Hello, Autumn!!! It may not be as warm outside as spring or summer but I am happy that I can still go out and not wear layers and layers of clothing. The past 3 days has been lovely, the weather and the time that I had with A before another crazy work weekend were just some of the things that I will hold onto until our next day off. Days like this remind me of spring,, the beautiful flowers around our place, the green grass, and the joy of having sun out until 8pm. A and I does not let a week go by without trying something new — food, place, experience, anything!
Yesterday, I woke up saying “thank God it’s Monday”. A day where we only worry about where and what to eat. I cans say that we tried a lot of new things this year, different cuisines, went to places we thought we will never try,and discovered hidden gems around the area. So here are a couple of Mondays during spring, beautiful spring.
I am a FroYo addict and A knew about that even before he took me out for our first “date”.
I won’t go into much cheesy details but for quite sometime he thought I ate FroYo for breakfast ,lunch, and dinner! Haha
I love how our apartment is so close to a lot of froyo places. I WILL NEVER GET HUNGRY! haha
TCBY is such a sweet discovery. The velvety texture of their froyo and unique flavors are the qualities that I look for when I go to a froyo place. (more…)
Hello, sweets!!! 🙂 Today I am going to write about the continuation of our engagement shoot. Unlike my previous post, this won’t be extra cheesy and it will mostly cover food. It’s hard for A and I to go out on a date and not make food the highlight.Planning the engagement shoot was very exciting for us, so I will also add a little extra to this post and show you snippets of the things that we did prior to the event. I don’t know if I can ever top my New York Engagement Shoot post, I mean WOW! The traffic that I got and overwhelming messages from everyone made my heart melt. And I guess it’s safe to say…… donnnnn’t goooo! Hahaha!
Want to be inspired? Read my blog about our Engagement Shoot before you scroll down http://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/2014/10/22/new-york-engagement-shoot/
New York is not only about the fast phased lifestyle and glamorous outfits. It’s the concrete jungle, and one must be an animal to fully see what New York is all about.
Don’t just go to 5th Ave or Times Square. Do get lost, ask New Yorkers, and don’t be afraid! Try the food carts parked on the streets and go to a beautiful restaurant with an amazing view. Stare at the subway map. Ladies, look at the shoes that New Yorkers wear.
Don’t be a tourist, be a traveler.
A gets excited when he sees the word “noodles”. He saw the logo of this restaurant and asked Pat if he can take pictures outside this restaurant.
I almost died laughing, but let’s be honest I found it cute that he spoke up. The engagement shoot is more of a woman’s thing and the fact that he cooperated and wanted something for the two of us made me so happy.
Anyway, we can’t have a picture outside this restaurant and not eat here.
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Happy hump day!!! I’ve noticed that I haven’t posted anything about my wedding and the joys of planning it since the proposal entry. I love planning events! I think if I am not a Chef right now I would be an Event planner, slaving my way to every joyous moment. I can’t believe that A and I are getting closer and closer to our BIG DAY!!!! And everyday I feel like I still have a million things to do. It’s extra challenging to plan our wedding because we are miles and miles away from the Philippines. Yes! The wedding is going to be in the Philippines, so we are going back to my home country in a couple of months and we can’t wait!! My only wish during this process is to not be a bridezilla, I do not want to put the people that I love through a frightening roller coaster ride. I want it to be memorable for all of us, that’s why I want my personal touch in everything and everyone’s opinion. So far, no one has opposed to anything yet, I don’t know if they are just being nice or what but knowing that everyone is on the same page when it comes to the wedding makes things a lot easier.
Today, I will share with you one of the most exciting happenings in my life, and probably one of the best parts of being engaged —- the engagement shoot! A lot of couples are doing it now, and since I got engaged, whenever A and I does something related to the wedding I couldn’t help but be grateful for all the fun things that we get to experience. Getting married now is now an extra memorable milestone for the couple, all the perks and celebrations are just some of the things that makes me want to not let this pre-wedding stuff to end. I also know that there are still a number of engaged couples out there who are not too thrilled about doing an engagement shoot, and it could be because of many reasons, doing an engagement shoot is not cheap, and it will take up your day just for the shoot alone —- unless you want to keep it low-key and hire a friend photographer, you’ll be fine.
Anyway, these are not the official photos from our photographer. I will be selfish for a little bit and take my time before I share them here! HAHA. And before you move on to the rest of my entry, read about my engagement here http://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/2014/07/20/yes/
My main reason why I started this blog 3 years ago is to inspire people, and though sometimes I feel like I fall short in doing that. Today, I will do my very best to tell you a few tips about having an engagement shoot 🙂
New York, New York!
Here we are at the Brooklyn Bridge being directed by my favorite photographer 🙂 (more…)
10:06:13: Of Traveling Together
Hello, sweets! Another week is coming to an end, Monday is fast approaching, and I can’t wait for my weekend to start!!! This year, A and I promised each other that we will make this year better than the first 2 years we’ve been together. 2012, we were too busy at work that we missed spending some celebrations together (I remember working for his birthday all night). 2013, I spent 8 months in Manila, 8 months away from him. We engaged ourselves in a long distance relationship, and happily made it through after almost 11 months. Which I am very grateful for because A did everything to make me feel like he is not too away from me. Up to the point that he traveled to Asia and spent 3 weeks with me and my family. This year, we want to make the most of our time and experience new things together before we get married.
Anyway, this is my last post about our memorable trip in Hong Kong. Writing about this makes me pumped up about writing more each week so I can start our Bangkok Diary soon! Also, it excites me for our next trip together!!!! Traveling brought A and I closer and I think it is one of the reasons why I said YES to him. We got lost together, walked for an hour, survived a place we’ve never been before, spoke to people we couldn’t understand, and learned things about each other.
Make sure you’ve read my previous posts about our Hong Kong trip before you move on!! 🙂

The hotel sent us a fruit platter for A’s birthday before we checked out! Perfect for me because I love fruits!! YUMMMS
‘Our flight was in the afternoon, so we had the morning to do last minute shopping. The only thing on my list was to go the closest Tai Cheong that opens before 9AM.
Surprised A by wearing this Van Halen sweater for our last day! He likes it when I wear shirts of the bands that he listens to (hahahah it’s the least thing that I can do since I’ can’t stand 15 minutes listening to his music. LOL
While waiting for the train going to Tseung Kwan O.
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Another week is about to come to an end again and here I am working on my third blog!! YAY! I know it seems like a long time from now but I plan to post entries from my recent trip back home before April 2015 (trust me, in my book this is like a month away). Anyway, today I am writing an entry for my Mom, who just celebrated her birthday a couple of days ago. As you all know, I really hate missing special occasions with my family, and sometimes I feel like I’ve been unfair to my Mom cause I’ve missed a couple of her birthdays, and have been away for Mother’s Day for a number of times already.
I know I am a self confessed Daddy’s Girl but I feel like deep down, I am also a Mama’s Girl — we all are, actually. As soon soon as we grow inside our Mom’s body, there is this special bond that we can share to anyone else but her. When I was a kid, I’ve always looked up to my Dad for doing everything for us. But as I grew older, I have also realized that my Mom has managed to do everything for my Dad, my siblings, and I. And if I can be half of the woman that she is now when I have my own family, I would be the happiest.
I do not want to end the year without posting anything for my Mom’s birthday so I’ve decided to post a little throwback of the afternoons that we’ve spent together when I was home.
Below are some of the dishes that I made this past February.
I hope you still remember my 2 blogs about me cooking something everyday until my first departure to the US this year..

10.05.13: 26 and happy
Hello, sweets! 🙂 Here’s the continuation of A’s amazing birthday week in Hong Kong last year (in case you haven’t read the first part yet, here it is http://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/2014/10/06/hong-kong-diary-happy-birthday-a/ ) We had so much fun lat night for A’s birthday dinner this year, I can’t wait to post tidbits about it on Instagram and hopefully share it here on my blog SOON! We are still away from reality (Baltimore) and we’ve decided to stay a little longer here cause we can’t go back to our apt. life-work cycle yet. Anywayyyy, for A’s birthday dinner last year, we did not plan anything, we just wanted to go out and have a nice dinner in a beautiful place. I am a fan of Shangri-La so I suggested that we go there, which was very last minutes — and it did not disappoint, as expected 😉
Read my previous entries about Hong Kong
They have 2 Shangri-La Hotels in Hong Kong, but we chose Island Shangri-La because we thought we are always at Tsim Tsa Tsui.
With my love <3
Look at this beautiful gigantic chandelier. Shangri-La hotels exude elegance, the perfect place to spend A’s 26th birthday 🙂
10.05.13: Good Morning, Birthday Boy 🙂
Hello, dolls! 🙂 3 years ago, October to me was just the month before my birthday, or my Mom’s birthday month, but since her birthday falls on the first week of October, I deliberately forget the month’s essence right after.. HA. Tomorrow is A’s birthday, and before I get anxious about my birthday surprise for him, I will share with you snippets from his birthday last year. I don’t know how I will be able to top his food adventure filled celebration in Hong Kong but thank heavens for giving me 3 days to give him a memorable one this year. Hint: we will be away from Baltimore again!!! (yay!)
Good Morning, Hong Kong! Good Morning, Birthday Boy!!! <3
Can I wake up in Asia again? Soon?
First Stop for A’s Birthday: Harbour City
This mall is too gorgeous for words! All the good stores (and when I say good, I mean high-end designer brands) are here…but since our Hong Kong trip was all about food, I had to stop myself from dragging A to stores that will take our time from visiting restaurants.Don’t worry, he gave me all the time in the world during our recent trip to Bangkok! 🙂
The main reason why we went to Harbour City, Laduree. (more…)
Hello, dolls!! Hello, OCTOBER! Wow,where did September go??? Everytime I blog I get reminded of how time is moving so fast, or am I just getting older so I feel that way?I know I have never been so good about updating this blog, and I say it all the time that it almost feels like I am being scolded by my Chinese teacher back in high school for reading an English book in class (okay, I am probably not making any sense now). No more one year old entries, unless it’s a major TBT that I’ve been holding onto. Since it’s the beginning of October, and we only have 92 days until we say hello to a new year, I want to work on as many entries that I can and read about this year with a big smile on my face.
I love Mexican food, and I keep on thinking when I started loving it. Growing up in Manila, we did not have a lot of Mexican restaurants until late 2000, but nachos and tacos are favorite snacks in the Philippines, no remarkable places that serve burritos or chmichangas. I used to go to Taco Bell when I was a kid and when I lived in Cebu for a couple of months, going to this Mexican place 15 minutes away from my apartment was the best treat that I can give myself every week.
I always get excited about Cinco De Mayo, I embrace the celebration like I’m a Mexican! The thought of having Mexcian food all day is heaven to me. Lucky for me, A gave me a good Cinco De Mayo by letting me eat Mexican food all day! 😉
