Hello, dolls!! Hello, weekend! <3 Less than 3 months left and I will be on my way to the Philippines…with my kids! Am I worried about the flight? A little I would say. Some of you might think I am being too facile about this, but after traveling 36 hours with little A when he was 6 months old, I feel optimistic about our upcoming trip with baby C! Traveling with a baby is A LOT of work and exhausting — if you hate packing, you will hate it even more once you have kids! Luckily, I enjoy packing so this does not bother me at all.
Anyway, A and I have been traveling internationally with little A since he was 6 months old. Believe me, when I say, I will do it over and over again because the flight does not bother me. Maybe I am lucky that my little one is a good traveler or the fact I prepare for our trip like it’s the armageddon.

Hello, dolls! Hello, last day of July! My last post was a little heavy so I am going o lighten it up a little bit this time. Can you believe August is right around the corner? Last full month of summer break before our new normal begins. Little A is going to start school in September and I am more excited than him I feel like. I am coming up to the conclusion of going back to work, so there will be A LOT of adjustments for us in September. One of my goals, before we go crazy busy, is to make the most of this wonderful summer break I got with Little A and baby C. We have a couple of out-of-town trips planned in August and the packing loving Mommy in me super excited!
One of my favorite cities is Philadelphia in Pennsylvania. It’s a little over an hour away from Baltimore so the drive is not so bad. There are plenty of things to see and great restaurants to try. I posted some of our favorite restaurants a couple of weeks ago now let me share our musts when in Philadelphia.

Hello, dolls!! Hello, #ThrowbackThursday ! 😛 I’ve been getting an extra day with little A every 2/3 weeks and I must say, I don’t know how SAHMs do it without wanting to call anyone for help! lol. My energy is being consumed by 3 major things for the past 7 months — work, my pregnancy, and running after my toddler. I can’t wait to knock down the first two in a month so I can devote my energy to our growing family.
This week, I talked to my employer about my future in the company. It went better than I thought it would. Taking a step back on my career is something I really can’t fully grasp yet. After all, I spent the past 8 years working hard to get where I am now — so it’s a really bittersweet feeling. Though I know it’s for the best reason, the big question for me is “how do people let go of something they are passionate about?”. I know I need this break for my mental health as well. If I am not pregnant, I would probably be overworking myself until God knows when causing me to be toxic to the people around me because I am beyond exhausted — this I have to remind myself over and over.

09.08.14: See you again, Thailand
Hello, dolls! Aaaaah. I can’t believe it!!! My last BKK post! I also can’t believe that it’s been almost a year since our trip to Thailand — and it’s the weekend again…already! August is being extra good to us, we’ve been getting extra time here and there and opportunities that can change our lives. Being a go-getter and having a husband who is very supportive, A and I decided to embrace this opportunity and claim it. So yeah, I do not want to speak too soon… but we feel good about this.
I know we can’t have it all, but I’ve been dreaming about going away before we kiss 2015 goodbye. I have the soul of a traveler, going to places is something that I always yearn for.
Read about my previous posts here https://riannagalvez.com/category/thailand-2/
Last days are always weird for me. I can get attached to a place when travelling — major “sepanx” alert! It’s the thought of leaving one place, leaving the adventure, leaving the “life” of a traveler and going back to reality.
I only have 2 missions for my last day whenever I travel — to shop and have a happy lunch meal at a local restaurant. Continue reading “Bangkok Diaries: Cheap Eats”
09.08.14: Last Minute
Hello, dolls!! It’s almost the weekend again. Yay! It’s a pretty exciting month at work, we are participating in a big festival and have a couple of parties lined up on top of that, business is doing good! This week, I was blessed with an interesting situation that helped me grow to be a better leader in the kitchen.
Anyway, I am also excited about August because A and I are getting a little time off work. We are planning to travel somewhere for the weekend but I do not want to speak to soon and keep my hopes high…but aaah, after a busy month, I think a short vacation is in order 😉
Thinking about our short vacation next month makes me miss our Bangkok trip. I am down to my 2 last posts and I am getting a little sad about it…I feel like our whole trip is coming to an end..for real this time.
Before I turn this into a sappy post, let me share with you our last day in Bangkok.
Traveling with my parents is pretty easy. I know what makes them happy and not complain — Daddy loves eating so trying local food is a must, and Mama likes to see new places and shop! It’s the perfect combination of what I want to do when I travel.
For our last day,we did what we also do when we travel — last minute shopping. Continue reading “Bangkok Travel Diaries: Last Minute Stops”
September 2014: Home
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Aaah I know, I know! It’s been a while since I posted something here.Life has been extremely exciting and nerve-wrecking for the past week, and now I can finally BREATHE!!!! My sister is coming here and I can hug her very very soon!!! So May has been really exciting, I feel like I have adjusted to my new role in the kitchen, which I am really happy about.
Everything that has been happening now, I know it’s all because of Him.I can’t tell you how many times God has proven me that there is nothing impossible when you believe and trust Him. For the past 18 hours, all I can think about is how amazing it would be to have my sister here! I can’t hide my excitement, I spent my morning thinking about how I would welcome my sister, I have so many ideas and I am happy that I accomplished most of it today. Pretty much my last day off before she gets here 🙂
Today’s perfect post is about my siblings. I spent the past week posting about my siblings —- of how proud I am of my brother Remo for graduating and my sister Chella for passing her visa interview. I am the happiest big sister today!!!
So before I begin…can I just say it one more time? I AM SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE MY SISTER HERE!!!! Continue reading “Manila Eats: Early Bird Breakfast Club, Eastwood”
September 2014: Hello again, Manila!
Hello dolls!!! 🙂 Aaaah, Manila! It’s almost a week since we’ve been home and about 2 weeks left until our big day! If there’s a chance for me to stop or slow down time, now would be the perfect time to do so. A and I have been taking afternoon naps because of jet lag, not that it is important, but it’s something that we have not done before! RELAX and not worry about work the next day. Although I must admit, my decision is kind of making me nervous about the first 3 months of my return to Baltimore. Ugggh. Why do I have to overthink everything?
Manila means food tripping everyday for A and I. Whether it be home or somewhere A would get stared at haha. I am only have a few posts left from our trip here in Manila last year, and I hope I could finish all of it before I say I do.
Before A and I would go on a trip, we would make a list of ALL the things/places that we want to do/go to.
Being a person who makes lists on almost everything, this has been really effective for us. The deal is to go out for lunch and check one thing off our list, then come home for dinner with family. Easy.
One of the places that A wanted to go to last year was Lugang Cafe.
It’s a restaurant by Bellagio Group based out of Shanghai and Beijing. Lugang Cafe specializes in authentic Chinese cuisine. Continue reading “Manila Diaries: XLB and Noodles”
10.06.14: Of ramen and tea
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 Hello, Vancouver!! Aaah I can’t believe that this is really happening!! After having an amazing and busy weekend with A,we are now on our way to Manila. As what A said “it is our most memorable trip to Manila”. It is definitely a trip of a lifetime because it will be the first time that our families will be together. Anyway, we have less than an hour left here in Vancouver until our plane leaves for Manila, hopefully that will be enough time for me to publish this one before all the craziness begin when we arrive home.
Today, we experienced a couple of firsts together. It’s our first time to travel to Manila together (this is A’s third time in MNL). Also, our first time to fly out of JFK. Thank God that our flag carried, Philippine Airlines, started flying to Manila from New York 2 weeks ago! We were very excited about this when they broke the news last year, no more loooong layovers, exhausting connecting flights, and worrying about our baggage!
Oh,we have so much love for New York! So let me share with you A’s birthday celebration in New York last year 🙂
One of the things that I love about A is how it’s not very hard to put a smile on his face.
He appreciates everything even the simplest form of gesture.
So what better way to make my birthday boy happy? A trip to New York to eat ramen 🙂 Continue reading “New York Diaries: Ivan Ramen”
Hello, dolls! Happy Tuesday 🙂 I can’t believe that our trip to Manila is just right around the corner. I feel like we just booked our flights yesterday. Time really knows how to play with our emotions sometimes. I am starting to get anxious about my wedding, feel sad because I know I will only get to be a full time bride-to-be for less than 21 days, and happy because after 7 months I can finally be with my family again…and even more excited because it is a dream come true to have both of my families together!!!! My head is a riot so I don’t know if I even made sense. haha
I can consider my year a successful one when I get to travel. I have never missed a year to go someplace I have never been to before since I was 14, and to me that is one of the best blessings ever! To be able to find time,go somewhere, see new things, and feel free.
So today, let me share with you the continuation of our Bangkok trip
Read my previous posts about our trip here https://riannagalvez.com/category/thailand-2/
As you all know, A and I are big fans of Anthony Bourdain. We use his show as our guide when we visit another city. We accomplished a lot of the restaurants that he recommended in Hong Kong, some in New York, a couple in New Jersey, and of course, we took the opportunity to go to the places he went to in Thailand. Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy Sunday…and happy St. Patrick’s weekend! 😉 Aaah, where do I begin? This is probably the most mind-boggling weekend ever. I don’t think I can finish my sentences without sighing multiple times. I am over-beating myself with a big decision I have to make soon. Two great opportunities are in front of me and I can only choose one (WHY!!!!!!). Two great opportunities that makes me want to split myself into two so I can do both. As I said to my post on Facebook, faith can really turn dreams to reality. I know that I am being blessed with this situation because of the I have in Him. I remember praying ever night to be someone…to be at a place where I can be great. I also dreamed of success at a young age, so I prayed for it. All these He made possible. I know that whatever I choose, I will be more than okay. Because I have Him.
Today I want to clear my mind, and it’s badly needed because I just felt like a zombie today. Headache and body pain after my 12 hour shift is not a good weekend mix. First thing on my list today — workout! One of the things that I find effective to de-stress myself is working out, and plus points cause I get to stay fit (and burn all the junk I have eaten for the week). So I went to the gym first thing in the morning, I find it more efficient for me also when I exercise in the morning before I do everything I have to do for the day so I won’t have an excuse later on that I am already beat up or whatnot. Another thing that de-stresses me is packing.I love packing! The thought of going to another place excites me. I have mustered up packing a suitcase in less than an hour, and making sure everything is secured during the travel. After trying to figure out what to eat for “brunch”,which ended up to a cup of tea and a bagel, I moved on to packing for our weekend trip and 1 of the 6 suitcases that we are bringing to the Philippines. Shopping of course tops my list when it comes to de-stressing, so I really can’t wait for tomorrow to come because I know I will be faaar away from Baltimore…even for just a while. Lastly, something very close to my heart — blogging. Sharing my adventures here on my blog definitely keeps me sane. Knowing that I have an outlet for all my thoughts is such a great help for
Only 15 days left until our flight to the Philippines (omg!) and A and I were thinking if we should go somewhere after the wedding. We are postponing our honeymoon until next year (just because we are planning for something amazing and we can’t get more time off from work). So anyway, we like to visit another country when in Asia. We feel like it’s another opportunity for us to get closer. But with all the things that we have to think about before our big day, I am kind of hating the fact that I have not made a step to make it happen…yet.
Let me share with you the second part of our second day in Bangkok.
A Bangkok trip is not complete without seeing the Reclining Buddha.
Our tour is short but I made sure that this will be part of it. Continue reading “Bangkok Diaries: Wat Pho”
09.12.14: Great food makes a trip
Hello, dolls!!! Happy hump day 😉 Aaah I can’t believe we only have less than 3 weeks left until we officially start our wedding journey. 2 Mondays left to accomplish everything that we need to do before our departure…oh the excitement of knowing that I will have a month filled with adventures and LOVE!!! <3
Looking at photos from our trip in Asia 6 months ago pumps me up more. I can’t wait to be with my family again and eat delicious food with A!!! One of our food adventures in Manila last year, and definitely one of my favorites is our trip to Bulacan to finally try my friend Karen’s baby… Sirius Espresso.
I am always happy to see my friends become successful. As soon as I found out that Karen opened a cafe, I wanted to hop on the next flight back home and try all the delicious things that she is whipping up.
I do not mind driving all the way to Bulacan just to try her food! Anyway, Bulacan is not that far from us. It only took us less than minutes to get to her restaurant without traffic…awesome! Continue reading “Sirius Espresso”
Hello, dolls! Happy Friday! This week has been going pretty well for me. I am happy that I got to accomplish a lot of things this week, despite of my head being a massive riot because of the million things I am thinking about. I feel ashamed because I have TONS of personal messages, comments here on WordPress, and e-mails that I STILL have to attend to. It’s crazy!!! I feel like every time I respond to one, I receive 5 more in return. So I would like to apologize to the dolls that gave me some lovin’ for the past few weeks.
Tonight, I am going to share the first part of our second day in Bangkok. With all the things that I have in my head right now, traveling is still something that never leaves my mind. If I could freeze time and just take a short leave from the planning, work, and normalcy, I would like to travel…go somewhere with A and our families, and not think about anything. (though…duhhh. it’s going to happen next month! haha)
Before I move on, read about our first day in Bangkok here:
My family and I are on the same page when it comes to City tours. We are a family of foodies and shoppers, so our itinerary is mostly about food and shopping centers.
But of course, we still want to immerse ourselves and learn about Thailand so we devoted half of our day to see the best temples in Bangkok.
Our first stop was Wat Traimit. This is where the Golden buddha is, the world’s largest solid gold statue in the world — weighing 5.5 tons. Continue reading “Thailand Diaries: Wat Traimit”
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy Friday!! Aaah only 3 more (or maybe 4) Fridays like this and I will be embracing the joys of being a full time bride-to- be!!! For my last post for February, I am going to share with you the second installment of our Bangkok trip.
One of my goals for my second time in Bangkok was to “go hard”. A and I were teasing my sister about all the food that she has to try, being a picky eater, she would always give us this weird gross look whenever we mention a kind of street food and how spicy and funky smelling it could be. Go big or go home, became our official motto lol. Every time we are in doubt of something, even when it’s not extreme such as buying a skirt,we would say “go big or go home” haha
So anyway, it has been about 4 years since my last trip to Thailand. 4 years is a long time, but I was surprised that mostly everything that I saw during my first trip remained the same.
We stayed at the same hotel, so it was easier for me to remember most of the things that I did and saw before, especially how to get around.
The location of our hotel is really convenient for all shopaholics like us. We are right in front of Central Mall, they set up night markets outside the hotel and the mall, food carts are always there early in the morning until late night.

08.18.2014: Forever Young
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Happy Monday <3 We are now at the last stretch of February and ahh I feel like I still have a lot of things to do, even though A already told me that I knocked off a lot of things on my list for this month. I just feel weird accomplishing things on my computer..you know? Like most of my meetings, transactions, and “canvassing” are done through the internet. Maybe I am yearning for that “hands on” feeling…like how I used to do whenever I am organizing some event or dinner. Being far away and planning a wedding at the other side of the world is challenging! I often second guess my decisions or put them on hold until April. It’s crazy but yeah…I can’t complain though because I am loving every minute of being busy.
Lucky for me, I have a fiance who knows what to do to keep my sanity intact. He knows exactly what to do..and that is to take me on an adventure. Our adventures are mostly for food. It also doesn’t have to be extreme, extravagant, or extraordinary.. every new thing that comes our way is an adventure for us.
So about a week before I left for the Philippines last year, A and I had the opportunity to go to Hershey Park.
It was my second time at Hershey Park,my first with A, and our first time to go to a theme park together so I was very excited that day.
Check my photodiary about my first trip to Hershey Park here https://riannagalvez.com/2012/06/17/hershey-park-2012/

Hello, dolls!!!! 🙂 I am very very excited to share with you our trip to Thailand. I can’t believe that it has been 5 months already…and boy do I miss it! Last year, A and I were introduced to “family trips”. After our trip to Bangkok, I don’t think I can no longer say “my family and I with A” because A is now part of the family, and vice versa. Whether it be it with our family in the Philippines, or here in the US, we are all considered as one family now. So anyway, I am very happy that I am now sharing my first Bangkok post 🙂
To be in another country with A and our family is probably one of the best blessings that I received last year
One of the best trips ever!!! Especially because it was for the best Dad who turned 50 last year! 🙂
We had an early flight to Bangkok. Getting 8 people to wake up early and be ready before 7Am is not easy. So after dressing up, we went straight to the airport.
No breakfast for us!!! Everyone was excited and in a hurry because we did not want to miss our flight. We were so ready to have our first meal of the day after checking in our luggage. Continue reading “Hello, Bangkok!”
09.01.14: My Asian Guy
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 Happy Monday!! The past week was very rewarding and blessed for the Filipinos due to the Papal Visit. Hearing stories from my family who went to see him 4 days in a row just gave me so much happiness. I feel like it was a very fruitful 4 days and I wish I could have went with them. It’s been 4 months since I’ve been home and I miss it terribly. Lucky for me, I have this blog and a gazillion photos to share so I get to reminisce about moments during my homecoming and feel like it wasn’t very long ago.
I was very happy to welcome September 2014 in Manila. Apart from the happiness that I was feeling for being home, A arrived at 3AM in the morning, making September 1st one of the best day last year.
So what do we on A’s first day back in the Philippines? Try to fight jet lag until 7AM, take a nap, then leave for lunch. Probably not the most ideal time frame but it worked for us a couple of times. haha
So what did we do to make a feel at home in the Philippines??5 letters—- RAMEN!
We went to Nomama Artisnal Ramen because I am on a mission…and that is to take A to all of the great ramen places in the Philippines. I did not want to exhaust A so I’ve decided to go somewhere close to us. Nomama, which is 15 minutes away from us, came to mind so we went there.

07.20.14: Summer’s yummy colors
Hello, dolls!!! Happy Sunday! 🙂 Today has been lovely — A and I were able to go to church early in the morning, have a sumptuous lunch together, and I was able to spend the afternoon with a friend. It’s days like this when I appreciate the time that I get for myself, with all the crazy things that I have to do, it feels like a reward lately. So A and I were sick for the past week, I guess I have to get used to being sick during the first week of January now because I can see that my body hates the cold weather that even 3 layers of clothing won’t suffice.
So anyway, here’s the continuation of my blog post about our NYC trip over the summer. http://riannagalvez.com/2015/01/10/nyc-jeepney/
Growing up, I never thought I will love wearing skirts. My family can attest that I used to be a jeans and sneakers kind of girl —- cause I used to be really concious about my legs. Now, I dislike wearing jeans. And even when it’s really cold out, I would prefer to wear a skirt with tights underneath. #TiisGanda as we say it in the Philippines!
Let me start my post with some yummy macarons. My ultimate favorite treat!
Give me macarons and I’ll love you forever. Continue reading “NYC: The Girl and Her Macarons”
07.20.14: Summer Adventures
Hello, dolls! I was supposed to post this last night, but I felt really sick. ughh We had our first snowfall 3 days ago, so I guess this is how my body is adjusting. Coming from a tropical country, wherein you can only distinguish the weather as hot or hotter (lol), my body is really not used to winter. I am not a fan of winter, in fact I am already counting the days until it’s over. If it weren’t for the outfits that I can wear, I would probably abhor it. Since I am in dire need of anything that will keep me warm throughout the day, I am going to share with you our NYC food adventure this past summer. Talking about summer and a Filipino restaurant (cause it’s always warm in the Philippines) will surely help me stay cozy.
A wawa stop is always part of our schedule when we go to NJ or NY. And of course, I do not leave without a nice cold peach yogurt smoothie to keep me energized. haha
I like how Wawa has healthy food and drink choices!
A and I has a long list of places that we want to go to — overseas, here in Baltimore, other big states, and of course..New York.
I am very happy to say that we crossed off a lot of restaurants on our list last year. Including restaurants that are not very close to us… yay!
Filipino cuisine is still trying to make its way to be known and loved globally. It’s only now that a number of Filipino restaurants here in Baltimore opened up (3 years ago I only knew about 2, this year… we have 2 more Filipino restaurants close to us now yay!). So imagine our excitement when we found out about Jeepney, 1 of the 12 restaurants in New York that we know of. Continue reading “New York Eats: Jeepney (Filipino Restaurant)”
HAPPY NEW YEAR, DOLLS!!! 🙂 I know I promised that I will post an entry yesterday, but aaah the last day of 2014 was a crazy roller coaster ride that ended with so much excitement! Anyway, looking back I realized that posting an entry on the first day of the year is probably a good way to start a progressive blogging year 😉 Only 3 months until I get to be in the arms of my family again, and aaaah I can’t wait! So today, as my first blog of the year, I will look back to my memorable trip back home.
I don’t think I can ever get used to not being with my family, especially during the holidays. A lot of people tell me that it seems like I have adjusted to my new life here already. but honestly, I still yearn for my family’s presence…every waking day.
I left a week before A. We all know how hard it could be to ask time off from work. I am blessed that I work with people who understands my situation so they allowed me to get a month off.
It was a bittersweet departure for me. It’s always hard to leave Baltimore alone.. Continue reading “Baltimore to Manila Flight: Tips and Places To Go”
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Happy hump day!!! I’ve noticed that I haven’t posted anything about my wedding and the joys of planning it since the proposal entry. I love planning events! I think if I am not a Chef right now I would be an Event planner, slaving my way to every joyous moment. I can’t believe that A and I are getting closer and closer to our BIG DAY!!!! And everyday I feel like I still have a million things to do. It’s extra challenging to plan our wedding because we are miles and miles away from the Philippines. Yes! The wedding is going to be in the Philippines, so we are going back to my home country in a couple of months and we can’t wait!! My only wish during this process is to not be a bridezilla, I do not want to put the people that I love through a frightening roller coaster ride. I want it to be memorable for all of us, that’s why I want my personal touch in everything and everyone’s opinion. So far, no one has opposed to anything yet, I don’t know if they are just being nice or what but knowing that everyone is on the same page when it comes to the wedding makes things a lot easier.
Today, I will share with you one of the most exciting happenings in my life, and probably one of the best parts of being engaged —- the engagement shoot! A lot of couples are doing it now, and since I got engaged, whenever A and I does something related to the wedding I couldn’t help but be grateful for all the fun things that we get to experience. Getting married now is now an extra memorable milestone for the couple, all the perks and celebrations are just some of the things that makes me want to not let this pre-wedding stuff to end. I also know that there are still a number of engaged couples out there who are not too thrilled about doing an engagement shoot, and it could be because of many reasons, doing an engagement shoot is not cheap, and it will take up your day just for the shoot alone —- unless you want to keep it low-key and hire a friend photographer, you’ll be fine.
Anyway, these are not the official photos from our photographer. I will be selfish for a little bit and take my time before I share them here! HAHA. And before you move on to the rest of my entry, read about my engagement here http://riannagalvez.com/2014/07/20/yes/
My main reason why I started this blog 3 years ago is to inspire people, and though sometimes I feel like I fall short in doing that. Today, I will do my very best to tell you a few tips about having an engagement shoot 🙂
New York, New York!
Here we are at the Brooklyn Bridge being directed by my favorite photographer 🙂 Continue reading “New York Engagement Shoot”
