September 2014: Hello again, Manila!
Hello dolls!!! 🙂 Aaaah, Manila! It’s almost a week since we’ve been home and about 2 weeks left until our big day! If there’s a chance for me to stop or slow down time, now would be the perfect time to do so. A and I have been taking afternoon naps because of jet lag, not that it is important, but it’s something that we have not done before! RELAX and not worry about work the next day. Although I must admit, my decision is kind of making me nervous about the first 3 months of my return to Baltimore. Ugggh. Why do I have to overthink everything?
Manila means food tripping everyday for A and I. Whether it be home or somewhere A would get stared at haha. I am only have a few posts left from our trip here in Manila last year, and I hope I could finish all of it before I say I do.
Before A and I would go on a trip, we would make a list of ALL the things/places that we want to do/go to.
Being a person who makes lists on almost everything, this has been really effective for us. The deal is to go out for lunch and check one thing off our list, then come home for dinner with family. Easy.
One of the places that A wanted to go to last year was Lugang Cafe.
It’s a restaurant by Bellagio Group based out of Shanghai and Beijing. Lugang Cafe specializes in authentic Chinese cuisine. Continue reading “Manila Diaries: XLB and Noodles”
10.06.14: Of ramen and tea
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 Hello, Vancouver!! Aaah I can’t believe that this is really happening!! After having an amazing and busy weekend with A,we are now on our way to Manila. As what A said “it is our most memorable trip to Manila”. It is definitely a trip of a lifetime because it will be the first time that our families will be together. Anyway, we have less than an hour left here in Vancouver until our plane leaves for Manila, hopefully that will be enough time for me to publish this one before all the craziness begin when we arrive home.
Today, we experienced a couple of firsts together. It’s our first time to travel to Manila together (this is A’s third time in MNL). Also, our first time to fly out of JFK. Thank God that our flag carried, Philippine Airlines, started flying to Manila from New York 2 weeks ago! We were very excited about this when they broke the news last year, no more loooong layovers, exhausting connecting flights, and worrying about our baggage!
Oh,we have so much love for New York! So let me share with you A’s birthday celebration in New York last year 🙂
One of the things that I love about A is how it’s not very hard to put a smile on his face.
He appreciates everything even the simplest form of gesture.
So what better way to make my birthday boy happy? A trip to New York to eat ramen 🙂 Continue reading “New York Diaries: Ivan Ramen”
10.07.14: Happy Birthday, Love!
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy #ThrowbackThursday. One shift left and we will be on vacation mode…or should I say wedding mode! haha. It’s funny how I find it a bit sad that we are going to be away from Baltimore for more than a month, I mean isn’t that weird? I’ve always loved the thought that I get to be home every year. Being here for 3 years, I still managed to never miss a year in the Philippines, for some reason I get blessed with opportunities to come home. For 3 years, I have learned to love this place and call it my home. So I guess #SepAnx is slowly kicking in..
So before we leave for the Philippines, and start get extremely busy for the wedding, let me share with you how we celebrated A’s birthday last year.
A’s birthday fell on a beautiful Sunday. Unfortunately, he had to work all day, but was able to convince him to let him come in at noon so we can have brunch together.
Surprising each other is challenging for A and I. How do you surprise someone that you are with everyday? Continue reading “Happy 27th, A!”
Hello, dolls! Happy Tuesday 🙂 I can’t believe that our trip to Manila is just right around the corner. I feel like we just booked our flights yesterday. Time really knows how to play with our emotions sometimes. I am starting to get anxious about my wedding, feel sad because I know I will only get to be a full time bride-to-be for less than 21 days, and happy because after 7 months I can finally be with my family again…and even more excited because it is a dream come true to have both of my families together!!!! My head is a riot so I don’t know if I even made sense. haha
I can consider my year a successful one when I get to travel. I have never missed a year to go someplace I have never been to before since I was 14, and to me that is one of the best blessings ever! To be able to find time,go somewhere, see new things, and feel free.
So today, let me share with you the continuation of our Bangkok trip
Read my previous posts about our trip here https://riannagalvez.com/category/thailand-2/
As you all know, A and I are big fans of Anthony Bourdain. We use his show as our guide when we visit another city. We accomplished a lot of the restaurants that he recommended in Hong Kong, some in New York, a couple in New Jersey, and of course, we took the opportunity to go to the places he went to in Thailand. 09.05.2014: First Day High
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy Friday!! Aaah only 3 more (or maybe 4) Fridays like this and I will be embracing the joys of being a full time bride-to- be!!! For my last post for February, I am going to share with you the second installment of our Bangkok trip.
One of my goals for my second time in Bangkok was to “go hard”. A and I were teasing my sister about all the food that she has to try, being a picky eater, she would always give us this weird gross look whenever we mention a kind of street food and how spicy and funky smelling it could be. Go big or go home, became our official motto lol. Every time we are in doubt of something, even when it’s not extreme such as buying a skirt,we would say “go big or go home” haha
So anyway, it has been about 4 years since my last trip to Thailand. 4 years is a long time, but I was surprised that mostly everything that I saw during my first trip remained the same.
We stayed at the same hotel, so it was easier for me to remember most of the things that I did and saw before, especially how to get around.
The location of our hotel is really convenient for all shopaholics like us. We are right in front of Central Mall, they set up night markets outside the hotel and the mall, food carts are always there early in the morning until late night. Continue reading “Hello, Bangkok II”
08.11.2014: Welcoming Change
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 Happy hump day! I woke up today with a weird feeling about today. I’ve been telling A how we have to embrace change if we want to grow. Although it hurts to move on from some of the things that we learned to appreciate, we have to leave room for better and bigger things. So I told myself that I can’t have a weird mood all day, so I claimed that we will receive good news before the day ends, and we did!!! A and I just looked at each other with utter amazement after that phone call that we received 5 min before we left our apartment. It’s a blessing right in front of our face, and all I can say is…great things happen those who believe in Him 🙂
I love how this week started, each of us received good news and boy are we excited!!! So anyway, here’s a post that will surely help me stay warm tonight. Cause you know….thinking about summer helps me forget about the cold weather…even for just a while 😉
aside from wearing light clothes….
I also miss the abundance of fresh produce during summer. Continue reading “Summer Never Ends”
08.06.14: Annapolis Run
Hello, dolls!!! Happy #ThrowbackThursday —- the day when it’s (quite) acceptable for me to post my overdue entries.
We are at the hype of winter. It has been snowing every other day and so far I’ve been going out with at least 4 layers of clothing. I have a love-hate relationship with March. I want it to end soon because of the cold weather, but on the other hand I kind of want it to slow down because I NEED to accomplish a lot of things this month. I feel bad for A because I am a riot right now, I find myself talking about different topics at once, and doing numerous things everyday that we can’t keep to each other anymore — or at least that’s how I feel.
Oh time…please be good to me.
With all the craziness that’s been happening in our lives now. A and I would see to it that we make time to just sit down, eat, and not worry about anything. We also make sure that we see friends once in a while.
Our hungry stomachs brought us to Annapolis, since we were already going to be at the area we called Frances so we can all have lunch together with out little egg tart. Continue reading “49 West”
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy Weekend!! We are now on day 17 of 2015, how has your year been so far? I wonder if I can ever feel that time is moving normally, like I am not chasing after it. For the past year, a lot of great things happened that kind of wish that 2014 could be longer…you know? Like…it’s too good to end.
I like how the holidays are at the end of the year. I feel like we are being rewarded for all the hard work that we did, love and kindness that we gave, and sacrifices that we made. And at the same time, be blessed with His presence and the realization that He is with us throughout the year. Cause honestly, nothing can make us feel better than the faith that we have for Him within us.
My Christmas Eve was beautiful. We woke up in New York, talked to my family in MNL during the day, and spent the holiday with our family here in New Jersey.
This was the second time I’ve spent Christmas away from my family. But you know what’s amazing? God blessed me with another family that I can be with..without even asking for it, He gave me A and his family. Continue reading “Christmas Eve 2014”
07.20.14: With My Italian Family
Hello, dolls!!!! Happy Friday — well it’s not officially Friday yet but ahhh I am just excited to wake up in the morning later and have lunch with the fiance cause it won’t be for another 2 and a half days until I get to spend more than an hour with him during the day. Anyway, one of my goals for my blog is to post at least 2 entries about our upcoming big day (3 months left!), finish all my holiday posts, and start February with a Bangkok post. I know I can do all these as long as I stick to blogging 3 times a week.
I can’t believe that my year of being a fiancee is already over and that in a few months I will embrace a new role.
If there is a perfect word for 2014 for me, it would be YES.
2015 will be, I DO.
After I got engaged to A, I realized that we are not only engaged to each other, we are also engaged to our families. Last year, I really felt how blessed I am to be a part of A’s family. They give me sooo much love and happiness like we have known each other for years!
Over the summer, A’s parents threw us an engagement dinner. Since A’s family live in New York, we did the party there.
Adorable gift bag from the Buscemi’s. Continue reading “Engagement Dinner”
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Another week is about to come to an end again and here I am working on my third blog!! YAY! I know it seems like a long time from now but I plan to post entries from my recent trip back home before April 2015 (trust me, in my book this is like a month away). Anyway, today I am writing an entry for my Mom, who just celebrated her birthday a couple of days ago. As you all know, I really hate missing special occasions with my family, and sometimes I feel like I’ve been unfair to my Mom cause I’ve missed a couple of her birthdays, and have been away for Mother’s Day for a number of times already.
I know I am a self confessed Daddy’s Girl but I feel like deep down, I am also a Mama’s Girl — we all are, actually. As soon soon as we grow inside our Mom’s body, there is this special bond that we can share to anyone else but her. When I was a kid, I’ve always looked up to my Dad for doing everything for us. But as I grew older, I have also realized that my Mom has managed to do everything for my Dad, my siblings, and I. And if I can be half of the woman that she is now when I have my own family, I would be the happiest.
I do not want to end the year without posting anything for my Mom’s birthday so I’ve decided to post a little throwback of the afternoons that we’ve spent together when I was home.
Below are some of the dishes that I made this past February.
I hope you still remember my 2 blogs about me cooking something everyday until my first departure to the US this year..
