10.06.14: Of ramen and tea
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 Hello, Vancouver!! Aaah I can’t believe that this is really happening!! After having an amazing and busy weekend with A,we are now on our way to Manila. As what A said “it is our most memorable trip to Manila”. It is definitely a trip of a lifetime because it will be the first time that our families will be together. Anyway, we have less than an hour left here in Vancouver until our plane leaves for Manila, hopefully that will be enough time for me to publish this one before all the craziness begin when we arrive home.
Today, we experienced a couple of firsts together. It’s our first time to travel to Manila together (this is A’s third time in MNL). Also, our first time to fly out of JFK. Thank God that our flag carried, Philippine Airlines, started flying to Manila from New York 2 weeks ago! We were very excited about this when they broke the news last year, no more loooong layovers, exhausting connecting flights, and worrying about our baggage!
Oh,we have so much love for New York! So let me share with you A’s birthday celebration in New York last year 🙂
One of the things that I love about A is how it’s not very hard to put a smile on his face.
He appreciates everything even the simplest form of gesture.
So what better way to make my birthday boy happy? A trip to New York to eat ramen 🙂 Continue reading “New York Diaries: Ivan Ramen”
Hello, dolls! Happy Tuesday 🙂 I can’t believe that our trip to Manila is just right around the corner. I feel like we just booked our flights yesterday. Time really knows how to play with our emotions sometimes. I am starting to get anxious about my wedding, feel sad because I know I will only get to be a full time bride-to-be for less than 21 days, and happy because after 7 months I can finally be with my family again…and even more excited because it is a dream come true to have both of my families together!!!! My head is a riot so I don’t know if I even made sense. haha
I can consider my year a successful one when I get to travel. I have never missed a year to go someplace I have never been to before since I was 14, and to me that is one of the best blessings ever! To be able to find time,go somewhere, see new things, and feel free.
So today, let me share with you the continuation of our Bangkok trip
Read my previous posts about our trip here https://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/category/thailand-2/
As you all know, A and I are big fans of Anthony Bourdain. We use his show as our guide when we visit another city. We accomplished a lot of the restaurants that he recommended in Hong Kong, some in New York, a couple in New Jersey, and of course, we took the opportunity to go to the places he went to in Thailand. 08.24-25.14: Of weekend getaways
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy hump day! Aaaah what a beautiful “weekend” it has been. Usually, I would be bummed that our almost 3 day weekend is now over. But since I know that we only have 9 days left until we begin our journey to forever, I don’t think there is room for me to complain. We are getting close!!! We will be home in less than 2 weeks! Which reminds me of the time I went home for my Dad’s 50th birthday, back when it would take me more than a day to travel to the Philippines. The flight alone is already exhausting, the layover and waiting makes it even more draining so I like to have at least a whole day where in I do not have to worry about anything including packing before my loooong flight — that’s why A and I likes to schedule our trips from Baltimore after on or after Monday.
A and I 12 hours before my flight to Manila last year..brought back a lot of memories when I left Baltimore 2 years ago to go home.
Love waking up to this!!! Continue reading “Almost There”
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy Sunday…and happy St. Patrick’s weekend! 😉 Aaah, where do I begin? This is probably the most mind-boggling weekend ever. I don’t think I can finish my sentences without sighing multiple times. I am over-beating myself with a big decision I have to make soon. Two great opportunities are in front of me and I can only choose one (WHY!!!!!!). Two great opportunities that makes me want to split myself into two so I can do both. As I said to my post on Facebook, faith can really turn dreams to reality. I know that I am being blessed with this situation because of the I have in Him. I remember praying ever night to be someone…to be at a place where I can be great. I also dreamed of success at a young age, so I prayed for it. All these He made possible. I know that whatever I choose, I will be more than okay. Because I have Him.
Today I want to clear my mind, and it’s badly needed because I just felt like a zombie today. Headache and body pain after my 12 hour shift is not a good weekend mix. First thing on my list today — workout! One of the things that I find effective to de-stress myself is working out, and plus points cause I get to stay fit (and burn all the junk I have eaten for the week). So I went to the gym first thing in the morning, I find it more efficient for me also when I exercise in the morning before I do everything I have to do for the day so I won’t have an excuse later on that I am already beat up or whatnot. Another thing that de-stresses me is packing.I love packing! The thought of going to another place excites me. I have mustered up packing a suitcase in less than an hour, and making sure everything is secured during the travel. After trying to figure out what to eat for “brunch”,which ended up to a cup of tea and a bagel, I moved on to packing for our weekend trip and 1 of the 6 suitcases that we are bringing to the Philippines. Shopping of course tops my list when it comes to de-stressing, so I really can’t wait for tomorrow to come because I know I will be faaar away from Baltimore…even for just a while. Lastly, something very close to my heart — blogging. Sharing my adventures here on my blog definitely keeps me sane. Knowing that I have an outlet for all my thoughts is such a great help for
Only 15 days left until our flight to the Philippines (omg!) and A and I were thinking if we should go somewhere after the wedding. We are postponing our honeymoon until next year (just because we are planning for something amazing and we can’t get more time off from work). So anyway, we like to visit another country when in Asia. We feel like it’s another opportunity for us to get closer. But with all the things that we have to think about before our big day, I am kind of hating the fact that I have not made a step to make it happen…yet.
Let me share with you the second part of our second day in Bangkok.
A Bangkok trip is not complete without seeing the Reclining Buddha.
Our tour is short but I made sure that this will be part of it. Continue reading “Bangkok Diaries: Wat Pho”
Hello, dolls! Happy Friday! This week has been going pretty well for me. I am happy that I got to accomplish a lot of things this week, despite of my head being a massive riot because of the million things I am thinking about. I feel ashamed because I have TONS of personal messages, comments here on WordPress, and e-mails that I STILL have to attend to. It’s crazy!!! I feel like every time I respond to one, I receive 5 more in return. So I would like to apologize to the dolls that gave me some lovin’ for the past few weeks.
Tonight, I am going to share the first part of our second day in Bangkok. With all the things that I have in my head right now, traveling is still something that never leaves my mind. If I could freeze time and just take a short leave from the planning, work, and normalcy, I would like to travel…go somewhere with A and our families, and not think about anything. (though…duhhh. it’s going to happen next month! haha)
Before I move on, read about our first day in Bangkok here:
My family and I are on the same page when it comes to City tours. We are a family of foodies and shoppers, so our itinerary is mostly about food and shopping centers.
But of course, we still want to immerse ourselves and learn about Thailand so we devoted half of our day to see the best temples in Bangkok.
Our first stop was Wat Traimit. This is where the Golden buddha is, the world’s largest solid gold statue in the world — weighing 5.5 tons. Continue reading “Thailand Diaries: Wat Traimit”
09.05.2014: First Day High
Hello, dolls! 🙂 Happy Friday!! Aaah only 3 more (or maybe 4) Fridays like this and I will be embracing the joys of being a full time bride-to- be!!! For my last post for February, I am going to share with you the second installment of our Bangkok trip.
One of my goals for my second time in Bangkok was to “go hard”. A and I were teasing my sister about all the food that she has to try, being a picky eater, she would always give us this weird gross look whenever we mention a kind of street food and how spicy and funky smelling it could be. Go big or go home, became our official motto lol. Every time we are in doubt of something, even when it’s not extreme such as buying a skirt,we would say “go big or go home” haha
So anyway, it has been about 4 years since my last trip to Thailand. 4 years is a long time, but I was surprised that mostly everything that I saw during my first trip remained the same.
We stayed at the same hotel, so it was easier for me to remember most of the things that I did and saw before, especially how to get around.
The location of our hotel is really convenient for all shopaholics like us. We are right in front of Central Mall, they set up night markets outside the hotel and the mall, food carts are always there early in the morning until late night. Continue reading “Hello, Bangkok II”
08.18.2014: Forever Young
Hello, sweets!! 🙂 Happy Monday <3 We are now at the last stretch of February and ahh I feel like I still have a lot of things to do, even though A already told me that I knocked off a lot of things on my list for this month. I just feel weird accomplishing things on my computer..you know? Like most of my meetings, transactions, and “canvassing” are done through the internet. Maybe I am yearning for that “hands on” feeling…like how I used to do whenever I am organizing some event or dinner. Being far away and planning a wedding at the other side of the world is challenging! I often second guess my decisions or put them on hold until April. It’s crazy but yeah…I can’t complain though because I am loving every minute of being busy.
Lucky for me, I have a fiance who knows what to do to keep my sanity intact. He knows exactly what to do..and that is to take me on an adventure. Our adventures are mostly for food. It also doesn’t have to be extreme, extravagant, or extraordinary.. every new thing that comes our way is an adventure for us.
So about a week before I left for the Philippines last year, A and I had the opportunity to go to Hershey Park.
It was my second time at Hershey Park,my first with A, and our first time to go to a theme park together so I was very excited that day.
Check my photodiary about my first trip to Hershey Park here https://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/2012/06/17/hershey-park-2012/

Hello, dolls!!!! 🙂 I am very very excited to share with you our trip to Thailand. I can’t believe that it has been 5 months already…and boy do I miss it! Last year, A and I were introduced to “family trips”. After our trip to Bangkok, I don’t think I can no longer say “my family and I with A” because A is now part of the family, and vice versa. Whether it be it with our family in the Philippines, or here in the US, we are all considered as one family now. So anyway, I am very happy that I am now sharing my first Bangkok post 🙂
To be in another country with A and our family is probably one of the best blessings that I received last year
One of the best trips ever!!! Especially because it was for the best Dad who turned 50 last year! 🙂
We had an early flight to Bangkok. Getting 8 people to wake up early and be ready before 7Am is not easy. So after dressing up, we went straight to the airport.
No breakfast for us!!! Everyone was excited and in a hurry because we did not want to miss our flight. We were so ready to have our first meal of the day after checking in our luggage. Continue reading “Hello, Bangkok!”
07.21.14: Bida ang sarap!
Hello, dolls!! Happy Sunday!!! Our third pre-cana class just ended and ahhhh I can’t believe that we are almost at the end of this beautiful journey. We had an amazing day today! Although I must say, I overslept a little haha (but hey! I deserve it after working almost 13 hours yesterday!) So we went to church and had brunch at one of the best brunch places here in Baltimore, then had a good afternoon in class. How I love Sundays like this! Earlier, I prayed for more meaningful Sundays like today this year. My heart breaks just thinking about February ending so soon…and how after the wedding our work schedules will most likely get in the way. Thank God for our pre-cana because we get to be on the same page about our relationship and important things without getting into an argument or trying too hard.
So we are just 6 days away from Valentine’s….meaning 6 days until my father-in-law turns 60! What’s exciting about it is that we will be in New Jersey the day after so I am pretty hyped up about that. A short vacation is much needed for A and I!
I have 6 days to dream about our upcoming getaway, for now I’ll blog about our New York side trip that happened over the summer.
A would often say that he wishes we have Jollibee close to us. When we are in New Jersey, he would drop hints saying we should go to Jollibee for lunch.
So when we were in New York we decided to take the girls cause they’ve never tried Jollibee.
2 buckets of fried chicken, rice, 4 large fries, 4 sundaes, yumburger, and my avocado pearl shake…. YES! When in Jollibee….YOU GO BIG! 😉 Continue reading “New York: Jollibee”
09.02.14: Anghelica’s, Borough, Black Chicken, and Mama’s Hainanese Chicken
Hello, dolls! Happy snowy Monday 😉 I can’t believe that my “weekend” is almost over again…and that in 8 and half weeks I will be home again!!! I don’t think I can hide the fact that I am pretty scared about February coming so soon. I feel like I still have tons to do… for the wedding, our life after the wedding, my sister’s future, my family taking a big step for togetherness..and you know? THE WEDDING! The past weekend was nothing but a riot and aaaah…I am just happy to finally let my thoughts out and clear my mind…even for just a little while 🙂
When I think of home, one of the things that come to mind is Anghelica’s.
Chef Anne’s brainchild. (which makes me realize! I need to place my orders soon!)
When A and I came home in September, I told Chef Anne I want to try all of her new creations. Having her ube leche flan cake with the family is one of the reasons why I would always come home.
Anghelica’s promote desserts with Filipino favorite ingredients and flavors or as she puts it — Anghelica’s is a tribute to Philippine sweets.
The ube leche flan cake is the killer, but there is so much more in Anghelica’s that you have to try. Continue reading “Manila Eats: September 2014”
07.20.14: Summer’s yummy colors
Hello, dolls!!! Happy Sunday! 🙂 Today has been lovely — A and I were able to go to church early in the morning, have a sumptuous lunch together, and I was able to spend the afternoon with a friend. It’s days like this when I appreciate the time that I get for myself, with all the crazy things that I have to do, it feels like a reward lately. So A and I were sick for the past week, I guess I have to get used to being sick during the first week of January now because I can see that my body hates the cold weather that even 3 layers of clothing won’t suffice.
So anyway, here’s the continuation of my blog post about our NYC trip over the summer. http://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/2015/01/10/nyc-jeepney/
Growing up, I never thought I will love wearing skirts. My family can attest that I used to be a jeans and sneakers kind of girl —- cause I used to be really concious about my legs. Now, I dislike wearing jeans. And even when it’s really cold out, I would prefer to wear a skirt with tights underneath. #TiisGanda as we say it in the Philippines!
Let me start my post with some yummy macarons. My ultimate favorite treat!
Give me macarons and I’ll love you forever. Continue reading “NYC: The Girl and Her Macarons”
07.20.14: Summer Adventures
Hello, dolls! I was supposed to post this last night, but I felt really sick. ughh We had our first snowfall 3 days ago, so I guess this is how my body is adjusting. Coming from a tropical country, wherein you can only distinguish the weather as hot or hotter (lol), my body is really not used to winter. I am not a fan of winter, in fact I am already counting the days until it’s over. If it weren’t for the outfits that I can wear, I would probably abhor it. Since I am in dire need of anything that will keep me warm throughout the day, I am going to share with you our NYC food adventure this past summer. Talking about summer and a Filipino restaurant (cause it’s always warm in the Philippines) will surely help me stay cozy.
A wawa stop is always part of our schedule when we go to NJ or NY. And of course, I do not leave without a nice cold peach yogurt smoothie to keep me energized. haha
I like how Wawa has healthy food and drink choices!
A and I has a long list of places that we want to go to — overseas, here in Baltimore, other big states, and of course..New York.
I am very happy to say that we crossed off a lot of restaurants on our list last year. Including restaurants that are not very close to us… yay!
Filipino cuisine is still trying to make its way to be known and loved globally. It’s only now that a number of Filipino restaurants here in Baltimore opened up (3 years ago I only knew about 2, this year… we have 2 more Filipino restaurants close to us now yay!). So imagine our excitement when we found out about Jeepney, 1 of the 12 restaurants in New York that we know of. Continue reading “NYC: Jeepney”
Hello, dolls! 🙂 3 days has passed since we welcome the new year, how was your 2015 so far? I honestly don’t feel like it’s already 2015, maybe because I am drowning with all the responsibilities that I have to do before this month ends (God I really need to get it together) or maybe because I still can’t believe that I will get married, see my family, and turn 25 THIS YEAR! It’s crazy how life scares us with time sometimes, I feel like I can never have enough days in a year — especially starting 2012, cause since then life has been amazing and I always get this feeling that I do not want that year to end.
Anyway, I stopped doing resolutions when I turned 15, cause after 10 days I forget about all the things that I want to change about myself and end up with a piece of paper that didn’t make sense at all by June. I feel like goals work for me better cause I like to make things happen.
So now, let me officially welcome 2015 by giving you 15 of my goals this year — for my family, love, and myself.
As we close out the holiday season, I am putting this one first. This is the second time that I celebrated Christmas and New Year away from my family and just like everyone else who has the same situation as mine, I do not like it —- it’s hard. So this year, my goal is to not make 2015 the third time that I will spend the holidays away from my family.
2. Embrace them as many times as possible
Cause no matter what happens, I will always always go back home to see my family. I can’t wait to be back in Manila in April and sleep in my room, wake up and hear my Dad’s voice, try Mama’s new recipes, and be silly with my siblings. So when I come home this year, I want to be a better hugger, and hug them just like how my Dad hugs us. Continue reading “Hello, 2015”
HAPPY NEW YEAR, DOLLS!!! 🙂 I know I promised that I will post an entry yesterday, but aaah the last day of 2014 was a crazy roller coaster ride that ended with so much excitement! Anyway, looking back I realized that posting an entry on the first day of the year is probably a good way to start a progressive blogging year 😉 Only 3 months until I get to be in the arms of my family again, and aaaah I can’t wait! So today, as my first blog of the year, I will look back to my memorable trip back home.
I don’t think I can ever get used to not being with my family, especially during the holidays. A lot of people tell me that it seems like I have adjusted to my new life here already. but honestly, I still yearn for my family’s presence…every waking day.
I left a week before A. We all know how hard it could be to ask time off from work. I am blessed that I work with people who understands my situation so they allowed me to get a month off.
It was a bittersweet departure for me. It’s always hard to leave Baltimore alone.. Continue reading “Home Run for The New Year”
10:06:13: Of Traveling Together
Hello, sweets! Another week is coming to an end, Monday is fast approaching, and I can’t wait for my weekend to start!!! This year, A and I promised each other that we will make this year better than the first 2 years we’ve been together. 2012, we were too busy at work that we missed spending some celebrations together (I remember working for his birthday all night). 2013, I spent 8 months in Manila, 8 months away from him. We engaged ourselves in a long distance relationship, and happily made it through after almost 11 months. Which I am very grateful for because A did everything to make me feel like he is not too away from me. Up to the point that he traveled to Asia and spent 3 weeks with me and my family. This year, we want to make the most of our time and experience new things together before we get married.
Anyway, this is my last post about our memorable trip in Hong Kong. Writing about this makes me pumped up about writing more each week so I can start our Bangkok Diary soon! Also, it excites me for our next trip together!!!! Traveling brought A and I closer and I think it is one of the reasons why I said YES to him. We got lost together, walked for an hour, survived a place we’ve never been before, spoke to people we couldn’t understand, and learned things about each other.
Make sure you’ve read my previous posts about our Hong Kong trip before you move on!! 🙂

The hotel sent us a fruit platter for A’s birthday before we checked out! Perfect for me because I love fruits!! YUMMMS
‘Our flight was in the afternoon, so we had the morning to do last minute shopping. The only thing on my list was to go the closest Tai Cheong that opens before 9AM.
Surprised A by wearing this Van Halen sweater for our last day! He likes it when I wear shirts of the bands that he listens to (hahahah it’s the least thing that I can do since I’ can’t stand 15 minutes listening to his music. LOL
While waiting for the train going to Tseung Kwan O.

10.05.13: 26 and happy
Hello, sweets! 🙂 Here’s the continuation of A’s amazing birthday week in Hong Kong last year (in case you haven’t read the first part yet, here it is http://riannagalvez.wordpress.com/2014/10/06/hong-kong-diary-happy-birthday-a/ ) We had so much fun lat night for A’s birthday dinner this year, I can’t wait to post tidbits about it on Instagram and hopefully share it here on my blog SOON! We are still away from reality (Baltimore) and we’ve decided to stay a little longer here cause we can’t go back to our apt. life-work cycle yet. Anywayyyy, for A’s birthday dinner last year, we did not plan anything, we just wanted to go out and have a nice dinner in a beautiful place. I am a fan of Shangri-La so I suggested that we go there, which was very last minutes — and it did not disappoint, as expected 😉
Read my previous entries about Hong Kong
They have 2 Shangri-La Hotels in Hong Kong, but we chose Island Shangri-La because we thought we are always at Tsim Tsa Tsui.
With my love <3
Look at this beautiful gigantic chandelier. Shangri-La hotels exude elegance, the perfect place to spend A’s 26th birthday 🙂

10.05.13: Good Morning, Birthday Boy 🙂
Hello, dolls! 🙂 3 years ago, October to me was just the month before my birthday, or my Mom’s birthday month, but since her birthday falls on the first week of October, I deliberately forget the month’s essence right after.. HA. Tomorrow is A’s birthday, and before I get anxious about my birthday surprise for him, I will share with you snippets from his birthday last year. I don’t know how I will be able to top his food adventure filled celebration in Hong Kong but thank heavens for giving me 3 days to give him a memorable one this year. Hint: we will be away from Baltimore again!!! (yay!)
Good Morning, Hong Kong! Good Morning, Birthday Boy!!! <3
Can I wake up in Asia again? Soon?
First Stop for A’s Birthday: Harbour City
This mall is too gorgeous for words! All the good stores (and when I say good, I mean high-end designer brands) are here…but since our Hong Kong trip was all about food, I had to stop myself from dragging A to stores that will take our time from visiting restaurants.Don’t worry, he gave me all the time in the world during our recent trip to Bangkok! 🙂
The main reason why we went to Harbour City, Laduree. Continue reading “Hong Kong Diary: Happy Birthday, A!”
10.04.2013: We take eating srsly.
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 I know it’s been a while since my last entry, but life has been extremely amazing that I had to put off blogging for a while. The upside of me being too busy is that there will be tons of entries for me to work on and post here (in hopes that I will be able to bring back my “rhythm” and blog regularly). I think posting an entry about my adventure with A in Hong Kong is very timely now, cause we just came back from Bangkok. I originally wanted to work on this before our trip (you know to give more light to my reason of why this is timely). But, being home is too amazing (and overwhelming) that blogging was out of the context for my first 10 days back.
Before I move on, here are my previous entries about my Hong Kong vacation with A…
For our 4th day in Hong Kong, A and I decided to “take it to the streets”.
We tried most of the street food that we saw and I think we did pretty good. You be the judge as we move forward 😉
But of course, we still visited a couple of restaurants to make our day even better… or maybe we just love having a feast even when it’s just the 2 of us. haha

10.03.2013: I’m getting used to this
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 So I thought of posting an entry before I leave for MNL, cause I know I will be taking tons of pictures back home — OMG I can’t wait to be with my family again I can’t hide my excitement!!!! Here’s the second part of our 3rd day in Hong Kong, another food adventure entry that makes me miss Hong Kong — and more excited about our upcoming trip! I know this is almost a year late, but it still feels like it was only yesterday when A and I discovered a lot of amazing food spots in Hong Kong.
And in case you haven’t read these entries yet, click the links below to have a glimpse of how our first 3 days in HK went.
After our Stanley/Repulse Bay short trip, we went to Central,Hong Kong to go to one of the restaurants on our list.
It doesn’t have an English name and we only had the address, so no “name dropping” as they say.
But to have an idea of what this restaurant is like, here’s one of the things that A got…… a roasted pigeon.

10.03.14: The “no idea” moments
Hello, dolls!!! 🙂 I can’t believe that I am VERY close to seeing my family again!! In less than a week I will be flying back to MNL (OMG!!) I can’t hide my excitement! My family and I planned so much for my homecoming and I must say, there will be a lot of plane rides for A and I for our upcoming 3 week vacation. It’s pretty similar to what happened last year when A came to the Philippines to visit me — a lot of cooking, eating, and traveling. Maybe I waited a little bit too long to post our Hong Kong trip, or maybe not. Its nice to look back and remember all the things that we did during our week long adventure at a place that he’s been wanting to visit since…ever.
Hong Kong has always been a shopping trip for me until A and I went. We did so many different things that I wouldn’t normally put in my itinerary.
One of which is to take an hour and a half shuttle ride going to Repulse Bay and see a different side of Hong Kong..
